Phase 1

• Bring together local environmental agencies, estuary managers, and conservation NGOs to recognize the prevalence of microplastics in Thames and Medway sediments.

• Encourage dialogue between researchers, local authorities, and community groups to understand sources, pathways, and ecological risks.

Phase 2

• Invite industrial actors, port authorities, and local municipalities to endorse a non-binding “Microplastic Awareness and Reduction Pledge” to monitor, report, and reduce plastic inputs.

• Encourage adopters to implement simple mitigation practices (improved waste capture, community beach cleanups, urban runoff filtration) and share observed outcomes with local environmental networks.
